Abstract: OBJECTIVE To study the action of the extract of Geranium wilfordii Maxim on the experimental gastric ulcer and to investigate the potential mechanism. METHODS Pyloric ligation， acetic acid， indomethacin and ethanol induced gastric ulcer model were applied to observe the anti-gastric ulcer action of the extract of Geranium wilfordii. RESULTS The extract of Geranium wilfordii significantly reduced the gastric ulcer index in pylorus-ligated， acetic acid induced， ethanol induced and indomethacin induced gastric ulcers. In pylorus-ligated rats， the extract also reduced gastric juice volume， gastric juice acidity and pepsin content. CONCLUSION The extract of Geranium wilfordii increases healing of gastric ulcer and also prevents development of gastric ulcer in rats.
