Abstract: This paper summed up the academic thought and clinical experience of professor Tang Shu-hua in syndrome differentiation and treatment of heart failure based on integrated Chinese and western medicine. An overview was made which included the basic understanding of professor Tang Shu-hua on heart failure etiology and pathogenesis， the unique thought of diagnosis and treatment of combining diseases with differentiation of syndromes of heart failure as well as the experience of application of formula， such as Huangqi Shengmai beverage， Wuling powder and Qiangxin mixture. Meanwhile， this paper stressed that more attention should be paid to clinically interpenetration of properties and principles， such as supplementing Qi， being careful in warming yang， being appropriate in nourishing yin， avoiding circulation and keeping flowing in promoting diuresis， and to the characteristics of heart failure pathophysiology and risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
