Professor Wu Mianhua's Experience in Treating Chronic Cancer Pain with Insect-Based Medicines Based on the Attacking Toxins with Toxins Method

Abstract: Chronic cancer pain is one of the common symptoms in cancer patients. Its pathogenesis is complex, involving various pathological factors such as cancer toxins and the intertwining of phlegm and stasis. Professor Wu Mianhua, through his long-term clinical practice, has summarized a unique therapeutic approach of "attacking toxins with toxins, employing insect-derived medicines". This method utilizes the toxic properties of insect-derived medicines, combined with the overall effect of the entire prescription, to directly target the lesion, unblock the stasis, clear meridians, eliminate toxins, and relieve intractable pain effectively. This article explores Professor Wu Mianhua's understanding of chronic cancer pain based on the cancer toxin theory, discussing the theoretical connotations and mechanisms of the attacking toxins with toxins method, the pathological characteristics of chronic cancer pain, and the principles of differentiation and treatment. Based on the different pathological factors accompanying cancer toxins, and according to the core pathogenesis of cancer pain (phlegm toxin, stagnation toxin, stasis toxin, and deficiency toxin), corresponding insect-derived medicines are selected for treatment. By systematically summarizing the practical experience of using insect-derived medicines in the attacking toxins with toxins method, this article further broadens the application scope of the cancer toxin theory in the treatment of cancer pain, providing new ideas and methods for traditional Chinese medicine intervention in cancer pain.
