Analysis of the Volatile Components of Different Parts of Acanthopanax Senticosus by HS-SPME-GC-MS Combined with Chemometric Methods

    Abstract:
OBJECTIVE  To conduct a comparative analysis of the volatile components of different parts of Acanthopanax senticosus, and provide scientific reference for their subsequent clinical application and development.
METHODS  Headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS) was used to extract and analyze the volatile components of the samples of various parts of Acanthopanax senticosus. The relative contents of the components were determined and compared by the peak area normalization method, and the differences of the components were analyzed with principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA).
RESULTS  A total of 167 volatile components were identified from samples of various parts of Acanthopanax senticosus, with 71, 61, 59, 48 and 54 volatile components identified in the root, velamen, stem, leaf and fruit, respectively, mainly as alkenes and alcohols. 10 common components were identified in five parts, including terpinolene, β-staphylene and α-rutinolene, etc. The results of HCA analysis clustered Acanthopanax senticosus root and fruit into one group, velamen and leaf into one group, and stem into a separate group. The PCA scores in the order were: root, stem, fruit, leaf and bark.
CONCLUSION  The types and contents of volatile components in the various parts of Acanthopanax senticosus are different, providing a scientific basis for the further development and utilization of the unconventional medicinal parts of Acanthopanax senticosus for medicinal and food purposes.
