Treatment of Perimenopausal Cervical Cancer by Conserving and Protecting Tiangui

Abstract: Perimenopausal cervical cancer is a common gynecological malignancy. Its occurrence and progression are closely related to the exhaustion of Tiangui and disharmony of the Chong‑Ren meridians. Based on the “Tiangui” theory from The yellow emperor’s inner classic, Professor Wu Mianhua proposes that Tiangui derives from congenital kidney‑qi and is replenished and nourished by acquired food and water essence. The “kidney‑Tiangui‑Chong‑Ren‑uterus” axis serves as the core regulatory axis of the female reproductive system. In perimenopausal women, the gradual decline and deficiency of Tiangui result in disturbance of this axis. Exogenously contracted damp‑heat pathogenic toxin lingers in the uterus for a long time and gradually produces cancer‑toxin to trigger the disease. The pathogenic evolution of perimenopausal cervical cancer follows a specific pattern. At the early stage, Tiangui is gradually exhausted, kidney‑qi becomes deficient, the Chong‑Ren meridians lose their consolidation, and damp turbidity invades the uterus by taking advantage of the bodily deficiency. At the middle stage, Tiangui is further consumed, yin‑deficiency generates internal fire, and toxin‑blood stasis interlocks in the lower‑jiao. At the late stage, Tiangui is completely depleted, yin and yang are both impaired, qi‑blood is debilitated, which leads to the dissemination of cancer‑toxin. Accordingly, Professor Wu Mianhua formulates conserving and protecting Tiangui as the core therapeutic principle throughout the whole disease course, and establishes a three‑dimensional therapeutic system of “invigorating the spleen‑tonifying the kidney‑regulating the Chong‑Ren meridians”. For early‑stage cases, the treatment focuses on reinforcing the primordial root for preventive intervention against disease progression; for middle‑stage cases, nourish yin to reduce fire, dispel toxin and resolve stasis so as to inhibit the expansion of cancer nests; for late‑stage cases, harmonize both yin and yang, strengthen healthy‑qi and consolidate the root to reconstruct host immune homeostasis. This provides a new therapeutic idea for clinical treatment of perimenopausal cervical cancer.
