Effect of Bupleurum Burdock Decoction on Thyroid Function and Serum Inflammatory Factors in SAT Patients

  • OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical effect of traditional Chinese medicine Bupleurum Burdock decoction for subacute thyroiditis (SAT) patients. METHODS From March 2016 to May 2017, 110 SAT patients admitted in our hospital were selected as the research object, and they were divided into the combined group (55 cases, western medicine + Bupleurum Burdock Decoction) and the control group (55 cases, western medicine) by random number table. Thyroid function and levels of serum inflammatory factors were compared before and after treatment. RESULTS After the treatment, the anterior neck pain, fever, goiter, hyperhidrosis, palpitation, tremor, irritability, weight loss and dry mouth scores in two groups were lower than those of pre-treatment (P<0.01), and the combined group were better than the control group(P<0.01). The levels of serum free FT3, FT4, IL-6, TNF-α, hs-CRP, TSH in two groups were lower than those of the pre-treatment (P<0.05,P<0.01). The improvements in the combined group were significantly better than that in the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION Comparing with the simply western medicine treatment, western medicine combined with Bupleurum Burdock Decoction can further improve the clinical symptoms of SAT patients, regulate thyroid function and reduce inflammatory reaction.
