Abstract
The emotional pathogenicity of the of nine qi and ten excess in The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion were explored. Besides, we separately discussed the origins and developments along with their pathogenic emotions of the two. In addition, we studied the psychological mechanisms of the theory of emotional pathogenicity in the nine qi and ten excess in the context of modern psychology, and analyzed the relationship between the two in terms of pathogenic factors and treatment principles. It is believed that both the nine qi and ten excess affirm the dominance of emotional factors in the pathogenic factors. However, there are differences in the principles of treatment of diseases caused by emotions. The treatment principle of the diseases caused by emotions of nine qi is based on the theories of the generation and restriction cycles of the five elements, while the treatment method of the diseases caused by emotions of ten excess belongs to the category of cognitive behavior and modification in modern psychology, which only discusses the method of removing the causative factors from the cognitive level, but lacks effective treatment methods for behavior. Therefore, establishing a system of Chinese medicine for treating psychosomatic diseases will help improve the diagnosis and treatment effect of psychosomatic diseases by combining Chinese medicine and psychology therapies as well as involving multi-disciplinary integration and crossing.
