Treatment of Radiation Damage from"Stagnant Heat"Theory

  • Professor Wu Mianhua identifies and treats radiation damage based on the theory of "stagnant heat". He concludes that the etiology and pathogenesis of radiation damage are mostly due to the binding of heat and toxicity, the contention between heat and stasis, and damages of qi and yin. The main treatment methods is to clear heat and resolve toxins as well as cool blood and dissolve stasis. The fundamental treatment are to boost qi and nourish yin as well as moisten dryness and engender fluids. The therapy is to protect the spleen and stomach, and not to forget the foundation of the postnatal constitution throughout the whole course of treatment. Syndrome differentiation and disease identification are applied simultaneously according to the characteristics of the main syndromes. Radiation therapy combined with traditional Chinese medicine at the beginning of the treatment can effectively prevent and treat radiation damage of patients with malignant tumors and improve their life quality.
