Treatment of Diabetic Gastropathy Based on “Toxins Damaging Gastric Collaterals”

  • Diabetic gastroparesis (DGP) is one of the common chronic complications of diabetes. Professor Nan Zheng, a master of traditional Chinese medicine, based on his years of clinical experience, innovatively proposed the disease name “stomach disease of diabetes”. He believes that “latent pathogen internal accumulation” is the basis of DGP’s onset, and “toxins damaging gastric collaterals” is the core pathogenesis. With the prolonged course of diabetes, latent pathogens accumulate internally, transform into toxins after long-term retention, and damage the stomach collaterals, resulting in impairment of both the structure and function of the stomach. Based on this, he established the therapeutic principle of “detoxifying and dredging the collaterals, harmonizing the spleen and stomach”, and formulated the empirical formula Xiaoke Weian Decoction, which integrates methods of quenching thirst, promoting digestion, enhancing qi circulation and nourishing the stomach, as well as detoxifying and dredging the collaterals. By applying this formula in a flexible and tailored manner based on individual conditions, it provides a complete theoretical and practical approach for the diagnosis and treatment of DGP with traditional Chinese medicine.
