Exploring the Warming, Nourishing, and Detoxifying Method for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Tumors Based on the Qi Dynamic Cycle Theory

  • Under the guidance of the holistic view of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors follow the principles of complex systems. This paper, based on the qi dynamic cycle theory, proposes three core pathological mechanisms of malignant tumors: abnormal ascending and descending functions of the spleen and stomach as the basis of disease onset; abnormal ascending of the liver and descending of the lung as the core of disease progression; and abnormal ascending of kidney water and descending of heart fire as the key to disease deterioration. It clarifies that the warming, nourishing, and detoxifying method differs from conventional methods of supporting the healthy qi and eliminating pathogenic factors. This method employs a composite treatment principle centered on warming yang and nourishing yin to support the healthy qi, layered detoxification and elimination of pathogenic factors, as well as dynamic balancing of qi, which restores harmony in the circular movement of qi through the synergistic effects of warming to assist ascending, nourishing to aid descending, and detoxifying to clear stagnation, demonstrating the three major characteristics of this treatment method: three-dimensional support of the healthy qi and overall tonification; layered elimination of pathogenic factors, providing an outlet for pathogenic factors; and dynamic balance, with support of the healthy qi and elimination of pathogenic factors. Combining the five core formulas from The indications of classics by four medical sages, including Huangya Decoction, Tianhun Decoction, Dipo Decoction, Wugan Decoction, and Tusui Decoction, a three-dimensional treatment framework is constructed: using the coordination of the middle burner and the restoration of spleen and stomach ascension and descent as the therapeutic foundation; harmonizing liver and lung and promoting the circulation of qi as the treatment core; and treating the kidney and heart concurrently to establish the extremities of water and fire as the therapeutic key. Its three main characteristics are summarized: three-dimensional support and overall nourishment; layered elimination of pathogens and providing exit paths for evil; dynamic balance with the symbiosis of tonifying and pathogen elimination. This provides a new theoretical framework and practical approach for the prevention and treatment of malignant tumors in TCM.
