Application of Oxidative Stress Mechanism in phlegm-wet Constitution

  • Phlegm-wet block is associated with the formation of phlegm-wet constitution, and also it is a kind of pathogenic factors, which can block qi-blood flowing, affect the function of organs, and finally result in Metabolic and cerebrovascular diseases. Increased oxidative stress is a key pathophysiological feature of those diseases, and the early antioxidant therapy can prevent them. This paper discusses the relationship between phlegm-wet constitution and oxidative stress from aspects of influencing factors and pathogenic mechanism, and holds that there are many similar influence factors between phlegm-wet constitution and oxidative stress ,such as life style, sports and age, etc. The decrease of antioxidant ability may be the formation basis of phlegm-wet constitution, the imbalance of redox may play an important role in the pathogenesis of phlegm-wet constitution, and oxidative damage may be the intrinsic mechanism which relate to the pathogenic diversity of phlegm-wet constitution. Exploring phlegm-wet constitution through oxidative stress can provide the important basis for disease prevention.
