Abstract:
The paper presents an analysis on the pathogenesis of thirst described in Chapter on Damp-Heat. The common pathogenesis of thirst lies in damage of body fluid by heat. In the diseases due to damp-heat, thirst may also be caused by obstruction by damp-heat, exhaustion of body fluid by heat, or deficiency of yang in the middle energizer leading to disturbance in body fluid. The treatment should be given flexibly according to different pathogeneses.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To investigate into the features of TCM symptomatology of children's viral pneumonia.METHOD Clinical observations were carried out in four centers by filling out the investigating tables and analyzing the data obtained.RESULT Marked differences were detected in syndrome distribution.CONCLUSION The commonest syndrome is obstruction of the lung by phlegm heat and the secondary syndrome is invasion of the lung by wind-heat.The main symptoms include fever, cough with sputum,rale,shortness of breath and nose flaring.Other symptoms include aversion to cold,nose flaring,sweating,sore throat,flushed face,profuse urination,thirst,nasal discharge,etc.The symptoms are of great value to syndrome differentiation.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To investigate into the effect of Ningxin Hongqi Capsule on the hormone level, pituitary gland, ovary and adrenal of female senile rats. METHOD SD female senile rats of 14 months old were divided randomly into a model group, a positive drug group, a Ninghong low dosage group, a Ninghong medium dosage group and a Ninghong high dosage group. SD female rats of 4 months old formed a youth group. Two months after drug administration, rat blood was taken and radioimmunoassay was employed to determine the levels of aquadiol, corporin, follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. The coefficients of the pituitary gland, ovary and adrenal were eompared. RESULT Ningxin Hongqi Capsule could increase the decreased E2 level, decrease the increased FSH and LH level, increase the quality of the pituitary gland, ovary and adrenal. CONCLUSION Ningxin Hongqi Capsule can relieve the atrophy of the pituitary gland, ovary and adrenal and regulate the functions of pituitary gland and ovary axis.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To search for the substitutes for Comu Rhinoceri Asiatici and Comu Saigae Tataricae and make evaluations. METHOD HPLC method was used to analyze aminoethyisulfonic acid and cholesterol, and spectrophotometry was used to analyze aminohexose and free protein in eight kinds of homs. RESULT Analyses were made on aminoethyisulfonic acid, cholesterol, spectrophotometry, aminohexose and protein. CONCLUSION The method was accurate, speedy and sensitive, with good reproductivity. The result shows that aminoethyisulfonic acid might be one of the active substances in medicated horns, with similar constituents in the micromoleculs of different kinds of horns but different contents.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVE To investigate into the in vivo and in vitro anti-tumor effect of pine bark procyanidins.METHOD MTT chromatometry was adopted to observe the inhibiting effect of pine bark procyanidins on multiple human tumor cell strains and mice tumor models were used to study the inhibiting effect on mice S180 sarcoma and EAC ascites carcinoma.RESULT Pine bark procyanidins had inhibiting effect on a number of human tumor cells,with the maximum inhibiting rate of 60%. At the dosage of 200 mg/kg,it could markedly inhibit the growth of mice S180 sarcoma,with an inhibiting rate of 42.3%.However,had no marked effect on the survival time of mice with EAC ascites carcinoma.CONCLUSION Pine bark procyanidins has certain in vivo and in vitro anti-tumor effect.
